Fan or not?

Fan or not?

Hi! The reason why I'm posting a forum topic like this one is just because I've read that there are people who are complaining about Avril's new song. I know one has the right to express one's opinion (and that's what I'm doing right now), but this has become a little bit annoying. I DO BELIEVE "What The Hell" is an amazing and funny song, and I love it; I love every single song that Avril has released, and I think you do as well. Also, I'm pretty sure that her upcoming songs are gonna be as awesome as What The Hell is. However, I feel a little bit afraid because it's supposed that Avril's fans have to support her, and I see that there are some "fans" who are not doing that. Moreover, people change, and what?? I like how she was and how she is right now. I hate it when people say "The New Avril" and "The Old Avril;" she's just the same Avril for me. People sometimes try new things, and as Fergie said: "She changes with every album she releases." Personally, I like that; she likes to renew her music; she always tries to give us something different and original. On the other hand, I know we had to wait a lot for the album, but it was because she was preparing something great and special. I think it was worth the wait; I do appreciate her hard work.

I'm an Avril Lavigne fan 4EVER!!! Wink

What do you guys think about this? Smile

About "What The Hell"...well,I must say that I expected more from a new Avril's single...We have been waiting for 3 years to hear something new from her,and I guess we were all excited once we heard that she will sing "WTH" for New Year's Eve...
This song is the least personal to her on the whole new record,it sounds like "Girlfriend",the lyrics are pretty weak and yes,it's kind of the same like any other song you can hear nowadays...Looking from that point,I'm not so in love with it and I'm a bit disappointed.Sad But,if it's true that she wrote the song under the pressure of her previous music company('cause we all know that she changed her management company),then I'll just say that I understand why "WTH" sounds just like that.
Anyway, the things I like in this song...It's funny,it makes you wanna sing out loud and play,it's really catchy...Even thought the lyrics are not of my taste and the sound is not something I would qualify as "great",I still love it.Smile It's energetic too...
So yes,I'm still her fan!Laughing out loud I just hope that the rest of the songs on "Goodbye Lullaby" will sound more like "Under My Skin",or something that is between her 2nd album and her "new" sound.Smile I'm really looking forward to this new album!!!Smile
All in all,I hope I answered on your question Oscar!Smile

Uncle Bob is spot on. I like a great number of bands/artists and I don't think I can honestly say I like EVERY song any of them have ever released.

Avril may change with every album, and if that's what she/the record label wants to do then that's her/their call, but my music taste has not changed. Her first 2 albums fit in with my musical tastes, that wont change and as such I will always be a fan. However, TBDT was, for the most part, too teen pop for my liking. Sure, there were a couple of songs on there I liked, but songs like Girlfriend and TBDT could have been sung by anyone at anytime.

What The Hell is along those same lines, but that doesn't change how good songs like Sk8er Boi and My Happy Ending are.

Thank you guys for sharing your opinion Smile

AVRIL IS GODDESS OF CREATIVITY.I'm in Wonder of her art in every work she do it...Thanks for your beautiful sharing Smile

I reserve the right to pick and choose which songs I like and dislike and still consider myself a fan. If she never releases another song that I like, I will still appreciate her first three albums. One of my all time favorite bands is Led Zeppelin. They made 9 studio albums. I bought the first 5. There wasn't enough music on the last 4 that I liked well enough to get me to buy them. That didn't make me like the first 5 any less. Nobody ever heard me cry about "I want the old Led Zeppelin back".

I Like "What the Hell"
Amazing Song, but...

I prefer "Complicated" Smile

To be honest I think the lyrics for What the hell are better than Girlfriend and maybe some others on TBDT but thats just me and just because you would rather skip past one song doesn't make you any less of a fan compared to someone who loves absolutely every song. Just supporting that artist by buying their albums, their concert tickets etc makes you a fan like every other person

Avril Rocks! love the new song i know all the lyrics now. Laughing out loud

i love what the hell!!
first i didn't but when i listen to it a few more times
its amazing!!
you rock AV !!

Of course, all of you answered my question; I wanted to know what you think. Thank you by the way. Smile I'd like to apologize if I insinuated there were people who were not real fans. I know we all are fans; nobody is more than the other. We all have different tastes and way of thinking, and I respect that.

Thank you guys for being honest. Wink

I'm an Avril fan for life & love all her music so what the hell just enjoy her music

i love avril since 2002 and i still love her. what the hell is amazing,i love it. but to be honest, i expect more. i want another complicated or happy ending. things like that :/

Yes, I am.... I have been a fan of Avril since she released the first album... The songs "Complicated" and "Sk8er Boi" remind me on the childhood very much Smile

I ABSOLUTELY agree with you.
I believed there was nobody who thought like me!!!!!!

i love what the hell!!
first i didn't but when i listen to it a few more times
its amazing!!
you rock AV !!

Friends speak the truth, and I think fans should too. As for support, I'll be buying my ticket when the tour rolls through, and what more support could you ask for?

Seems to me that Avril herself is realistic about what this song is and what it isn't. If she's more enthusiastic about the rest of the album, why shouldn't I be too?

Like I said in another post, I like this song, but I'm not in love with it. It's catchy, but forgettable; it's not very personal; it has a negative message; and Avril still doesn't show much growth in her lyric writing. It's a better song than Girlfriend, but it also keeps Avril firmly in that persona. It is what it is. It will probably do what it was meant to do. I'm more excited about the rest of the album.
