Come to think of it, isn't the only reason WYWH is doing better than Smile is because Avril and the company have been putting a lot more promotion for WYWH! Smile didn't receive a whole lot of promotion...

@Gradlon Avril does use voice enhancing software but not that much. And she doesn't use it that it actually covers up her real vocals. And Avril can sing unlike some artists who use it to cover up the fact that they can't sing.

Avril also use Autotune...

I do agree with you. I can't believe how those autotuned pop artists get to the top; I'm just sick of them. In my country, it is possible to listen to the same lady gaga song twice (or more times) a day in a radio station. It's sooo upsetting!! (that's why I almost never turn on the radio). On the other hand, I remember that in my country, WTH was one of the songs that reached a higher position in iTunes as the most downloaded and listened song. Smile and WYWH didn't have the same luck in my country, but at least I could listen to WYWH several times on the radio.

Avril is authentic and genuine in everything she does. She puts her heart and effort in every single album and song. Every single song is meaningful.

@goodbyelullaby123: Yeah, I hate autotune pop! That is pretty much what Britney Spears is "the princess of autotune pop". Avril's voice is genuine! Not to mention she is multitalented and versatile.

@Don_-58 Yeah, their music is nothing compared to Avril's! Her music is versatile and no one else does it like her. Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, all the same. Autotuned pop.

@goodbyelullaby123: Well we know what kind of music Avril needs to top the charts... Music like Complicated, Sk8er Boi, I'm With You, My Happy Ending and Girlfriend. Even with that, I'm still not sure because the whole world is still Gaga/Rihanna crazy! They've been like topping the charts for the last 4-5 years and I am getting really sick of them!

Hopefully Avril will knock them off their throne with her 5th album... Hopefully...

@goodbyelullaby123: Well it's not like What the Hell or Smile topped the charts either! But What the Hell did quite well for the first few weeks, staying in the top 10 in many charts! But that's not good enough!!!

@Aline28th I'm not sure about Push. I'm undecided. Maybe given the chance as 2nd single, it would of been a hit.

Mmmhh I don't know.. Maybe WTH is better than Stop Standing There as a first single, because is a "bridge" with TBDT era.. Then I agree with you for the others choices
But I think that Push too should be a good single for rapresent GL.. No?

Goodbye Lullaby isn't as mainstream as the other three albums, with the exception of Smile and What The Hell, so I think that's what was preventing it from topping the charts. But at least it did peak in the top ten or even the top five.
Oh well, I still love it!

I can't find official charts for France, we must say that GL has long fallen into the abyss...

I really do hope she'll put loads of promo into the first single off the fifth album and hopefully it will be a smash hit

@Don_-58 Yeah, hopefully the next era will bring success. To be fair though, Epic have given her heaps of promotion. But that's where it's RCA's fault, they should of given Avril loads of promo, mostly in the US/Europe. It's not needed in Asia really because she's huge there

@Aline28th If I was releasing the singles, my choice would be:-

1. Stop Standing There - for the 1st single, it's catchy, but in a different way to WTH/Smile. And it represents GL better. Plus, it's self written by Avril

2. Wish You Were Here - for the 2nd single would be perfect for a strong ballad. Plus, it's catchy.

3. Next I would release Smile.

And finally to round the era off, ready to bridge into the next album's era, release What The Hell

@Rachel yes you're right.. In effect when Smile was relased as a single, I didn't understand the choice.. It was so "unleashed" for GL.. Instead WYWH is perfect for rapresent GL era!

@goodbyelullaby123 They wouldn't even play Smile because it was "another upbeat song from Avril", which in my opinion is BS.

Anyway, back on topic. WYWH is ther best single they released from GL. It represents the album better

Yeah it has received more recognition than Smile I think.
